Earlier this year I wrote about two photos I found in a nearby parking lot. One of them was this photo of a 1959 class from R. Wilcox Public School:

A few days ago one of the students in this photo contacted me. Carol from Guelph, Ontario was searching for John R. Wilcox Public School photos and came across my post. To her surprise, she was in this grade 2 photo (the redheaded girl in the center wearing a red dress), along with a few of her best friends, and even her very first boyfriend (first to the right of Carol in a row of boys above her). Carol’s mom was struggling to support a large family and could not afford a photo package that year.

To my surprise, Carol also knew one of the girls in the black and white photo: “At 14 an entourage of us-”girls” hung together… school dances, the restaurant at Vaughan and Oakwood-Little Louis… chips and gravy and fountain Coca-Cola… and a quarter would get you 3 songs on the record machine.”
I didn’t hesitate and sent the photos to Carol – hopefully it will bring her some warm memories about that awkward and fun stage of her life. It’s a great story about unlikeliest connections made possible using online search. The internet helps little moments and memories like these surface and be re-lived over and over.
